A "MOM" BLOG FOR ALL OF US

You may wonder about the title of my blog. Let me explain. One day long ago when I was getting my son ready for his bath, he asked if I could "Make it warmer." I was surprised by this request as the water seemed plenty warm to me, if not hot. Immediately I received a treasured glimpse into the amazing mind of a child: what he really wanted was for the water to be cooled. After all, he explained in his kid-like way: warm is COOLER than hot. "Make it warmer." I thought that was brilliant. I still do.

Dad's Turn

I walk in the room. My son (16 y/o) is sitting at the computer. I come up behind him, lean over and hug him. Then I give him a kiss on the forehead and walk away. He grins and keeps on listening to music and reading his email. He doesn’t wonder why. He knows I adore him.

House at Pooh Corner

So, help me if you can
I've got to get
Back to the House at Pooh Corner
By one
You'd be surprised
There's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of
Christopher Robin and Pooh...

~Kenny Loggins

Phases

As much as my family loves me the way I am, I sometimes go overboard with the goofiness, and I get a "No, Mom!" This usually happens in the morning if I burst into joyful song or dance like someone who's actually awake. As often as I could make my son laugh when he was little, I can now annoy him. I try to respect that he has moods and instead of forcing him to laugh, I let it go and know that another day, on another morning, he WILL laugh and maybe, just maybe, even dance with me.

Don't laugh at a youth for his affectations; he is only trying on one face after another to find a face of his own. ~Logan Pearsall Smith

KEEP IN TOUCH

Our oldest nephew and our son are best friends; if not more like brothers. From the day J was born, 4-year-old D would ask: Can J play yet? It was so cute. D is now in college and J in 10th grade. Whenever they get together they are two peas in a pod, cracking jokes, each making the other laugh. D has always made time for J, even with his busy schedule of classes and working and living a city away. I have learned from him to  make every effort to stay close. The result will be very well worth it.

LOVE THIS IDEA!

It's not only us moms that have to lug around awkward diaper bags. Daddies do, too. And I'm quite sure they'd prefer to carry something that doesn't showcase big huge flowers or the quaint pastel stripe. Look no further! Check out these cool and hip diaper bags aimed at...DAD!  :) http://www.drmoz.com/storktoolsdaddydiaperbags.html

Cute Joke

Q: What kind of blankets do porcupines use?
A: Quilts!

Never Too Old

I love that kids like to hang at our house. It began when my son was the youngest child on the block and I wouldn't let him go to the other houses. Now, even though neighbors have moved and friends have changed,  the kids still hang here. They say it's comfortable and that we as parents aren't always grumpy or yelling.
I guess it goes to show that kids of all ages need to feel safe and secure. You are never too old for that.

While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.
